Swinging on a Star
Over 500 guests enjoyed a festive evening of dining, dancing, and a live auction at the Night of Light: A Benefit for Episcopal Charities on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at The Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco. Guests were welcomed to a cocktail reception with complimentary specialty bars donated by Diageo and danced the night away to the music of Richard Olsen Orchestras.

This year's theme, Swinging on a Star, was inspired by honoree, Bishop William E. Swing, who was honored for his commitment to the least and the lonely in the San Francisco Bay Area. Throughout his tenure as 7th Bishop of California, Bishop Swing's support of agency initiatives has helped established agencies adapt to the growing and changing needs of those they serve. His vision for new outreach ministries has helped small parish programs become large social service agencies. The City and County of San Francisco also recognized the tremendous impact of Bishop Swing's work in the community as Episcopal Charities Executive Director Sally Coates presented Bishop Swing with a proclamation from the City and County of San Francisco, proclaiming January 21st as Bishop William Swing Day in San Francisco!

Thanks to the generous support of guests, individual donors, and corporate sponsors such as See's Candies and Wells Fargo Bank, the Night of Light raised over $230,000 for Episcopal Charities. Episcopal Charities' grant programs provide support to fourteen social services agencies and many parish outreach programs in the Bay Area, offering help to all in times of crisis. Episcopal Charities is proud of the ability to be a flexible grantmaker, directing resources where they are needed most. Together, through the vision of the Bishop and the commitment of Episcopal Charities, lives have been and will continue to be changed.
